For those of you were not aware, I spent the majority of the spring as an artist in residence at the Woodford Theatre in Versailles, KY. So what does that mean exactly? For now it means, I teach weekly installments introducing physical acting, voice and stage combat to high school students who demonstrate a particularly strong interest in performing in the theatre. Additionally, I taught a master class to various members of the local theatre community entitled Heroes & Villains, exploring stage combat in the context of some of Shakespeare’s iconic warriors and ne’er-do-wells. Finally, as an instructor for the Summer Academy, I will be teaching classes in Linklater voice technique, physical storytelling, stage combat, and acting Shakespeare to students K-12 as well as college age actors and adults from around the community.
Throughout my 4 months in residency, I also served as the interim business manager and associate producer for Woodford Theatre, during which I helped to evaluate, research and recommend improvements to the theatre’s web presence and box office management. I also managed the day to day finances of the theatre, designed marketing materials and maintained the subscribers and patrons database. All in days work!
